What Is SmartCast?
SmartCast is more than just a way to open Netflix. It’s a complete entertainment ecosystem designed to unify all of your content in one place. Here’s what’s included:- Built-in App Store — Browse and install hundreds of streaming apps including Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, Max, Apple TV+, YouTube, Peacock, Paramount+, ESPN+, Pluto TV, and Tubi. New apps are added regularly, so your library keeps growing.
- WatchFree+ — Vizio’s own free, ad-supported streaming service gives you access to hundreds of live TV channels and thousands of on-demand titles. No subscription, no sign-in required — just press play.
- SmartCast Mobile App — Download the free SmartCast app for iOS or Android to use your phone as a wireless remote, browse content, and cast directly to your TV.
- Chromecast Built-In — Every SmartCast TV includes Chromecast built-in, so you can cast from your phone, tablet, or laptop browser without any extra dongle or device.
- Voice Control — Pair your TV with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant to control playback, switch inputs, adjust volume, search for shows, and more using just your voice.
- AirPlay 2 — On newer Vizio models, AirPlay 2 lets you mirror your iPhone, iPad, or Mac screen directly to your TV with no app required.
Prerequisites for SmartCast
Before you dive in, make sure you have everything in place for a smooth setup experience.- TV Activation — New Vizio TVs must be activated before SmartCast features are fully available. Visit vizio.com/setup from any browser, enter your TV’s serial number, and follow the on-screen steps.
- WiFi Connection — SmartCast requires a stable internet connection. A 5 GHz WiFi network is recommended for HD and 4K streaming. Connect your TV to your home WiFi during initial setup.
- Vizio Account — Create a free Vizio account if you don’t have one already. You can register during activation or at any time through the Vizio website. Your account lets you manage your installed apps, link streaming services, and sync your SmartCast mobile app.
- Vizio Remote — Your TV remote should have a V button or a dedicated SmartCast button. This is your shortcut to the SmartCast home screen. If your remote is missing, the SmartCast mobile app can serve as a full replacement.
If you haven’t activated your TV yet, head to vizio.com/setup before continuing. Activation unlocks all SmartCast features and links your TV to your Vizio account. Without it, certain apps and services may not function correctly.
